SK: $142.6 Million SaskPower Headquarters Refurbishment

Author: Colin Craig 2014/07/07

A little bird recently tipped off the Canadian Taxpayers Federation about a massive refurbishment to SaskPower's headquarters in Regina.

While there's lots of talk in Saskatchewan about various crown corporation rate increases - including the 10.5% increase to SaskPower rates over the next two years - I haven't heard anything publicly about one of the reasons for the SaskPower increase; the refurbishment.

According to a freedom of information request filed by the CTF, the crown corporation is looking at a $142.6 million refurbishment to its headquarters in downtown Regina. Click here to see the document.

Has anyone else heard anything about the refurbishment? Is it a basic maintenance-type project or something more extravagant? This is something we'll be looking into further...if you have any insight, I look forward to hearing from you!

PS - Also of note, here's an FOI doc that shows $6 million in upgrades and renovations have already been completed (or about to be completed) during 2013 & 2014 - click here.
